A blog of endless curiosity
This is one of the best books I’ve read this year. Clever and beautiful writing is only the start of it. Each section is written from a different character’s perspective, and at first the characters seem unrelated. But soon you discover the coincidences and bonds that bind these people together, and they are breathtakingly clever. Their stories subtly blend into each other, creating an orchestra of beautiful observations that swell to a blindingly good crescendo!
A woman falling in love in wild animal reserve in Israel; two strangers watching manatees in Tampa; a sister visiting her comatose brother and recalling some very traumatic times from their childhood in Utah; a disillusioned FBI agent – through all of these people’s lives the same elusive Jewish woman appears. Is it she who ties the threads of their lives together or a greater force?
The hints throughout the book to a Jewish myth tantalize and tease, the story keeping just one step ahead of the reader at every turn. This is so brilliant, but I don’t want to give anything about the story away. You have to experience it for yourself.
